 :: Composition ::
Each teaspoonful (5 ml) ZIRCUM KID syrup contains:
Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate equivalent to Zinc ............................................... 20 mg
 
 :: Pharmacology ::
  • Zinc is an effective therapy for diarrhoea in children age under 5 years in addition to Oral Rehydration Salts.
  • Zinc must be given immediately upon onset of diarrhoea, simultaneously with Oral rehydration Salts, to decrease the duration and severity of dehydration after diarrhoea. Regular Zinc supplementation will replace the net loss of Zinc during diarrhoea.
  • Zinc supplementation ensure that recovery from the diarrhoea episode is complete and to improve the health of the child in the 2-3 months following.
 
 :: Indications ::
Zinc is indicated as supplementation therapy on diarrhoea in children in addition to Oral Rehydration Salts.
 
 :: Contra Indications ::
Hypersensitivity to Zinc.
 
 :: Adverse Reactions ::
  • Prolonged Zinc supplementation (in adults) more than 150 mg daily can cause toxicity.
  • Prolonged high Zinc supplementation can decrease plasma lipoprotein concentration and copper absorption that can cause anemia, neutropenia, and others.
  • Common side effects are nausea, bitter taste, vomiting, mouth irritation.
 
 :: Precautions And Warning ::
  • No specific precaution due to Zinc supplementation.
  • Give concurrently with Oral Rehydration Salts or breast milk.
  • Continue feeding or increase breast feeding during and after the diarrhoea.
 
 :: Drug Interaction ::
  • Do not use concomitantly with Fe, due to disadvantage reaction. Use several hours before or after Fe supplementation.
  • Consumption Zinc salt can reduce oral absorption of tetracycline and quinolone (eg, ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin), so that reduce its anti-infective effect.

    Toxicity:
    Although no serious acute and chronic toxicity can occur, it is better to consumption not more than 14 days, because Zinc can make chelate with copper.
 
 :: Dosage And Administrations ::
  • Infants 2 5 months: teaspoonful (2.5 ml) daily for 10 days, although diarrhoea has been stopped.
  • Children 6 months 5 years: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) daily for 10 days, although diarrhea has been stopped.
